What is Sassa.click objective?

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is a critical component of the nation’s social fabric, providing essential support to various segments of the population. Types of SASSA Grants

South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) provides support grants in the following areas: 

  • Care dependency grant

Types of SASSA grants and amounts

1. SRD Grant:

SRD (Social Relief Distress Grant) is available to South Africans, asylum seekers, refugees, and holders of special permits between the ages of 18 and 60. To be eligible for this grant, individuals must not have the necessary means, not receive any social grants, not contribute to or be eligible for UIF payments, and not receive any other financial support. 

The SRD Grant is being increased to R370 (a R20 increase), from April 2024. This comes after an announcement by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana, on 13 March 2024, in the National Assembly.

2. Child Support Grant:

If you face financial hardship, you can apply for a grant to help you raise your child. If you are the primary caregiver, you must be a parent, grandparent, or child over the age of 16 leading the family. You must also pass the means test.

The value of the basic Child Support Grant is R530 per child, per month, as of 1 April 2024. This is an increase of R20 per grant. SASSA introduced the top-up CSG to assist relatives or primary care givers to provide for an orphans basic needs. The top-up amount is R250 per child, per month. Therefore, the total Child Support Grant is R780 per child, per month.

3. Foster Child Support:

You will also be eligible to receive a grant if you foster a child. Foster children are orphaned, abandoned, abused, neglected, or at risk children who have been placed in your care by the court. 

The value of the Foster Child Grant is R1 180 per child, as of 1 April 2024. This is an increase of R50 per grant.

4. Care Dependency Grant:

A grant for individuals who look after children with severe disabilities that may require full-time and specialised care is available through this program. The child grant covers them from birth until they reach the legal age of 18. 

The value of the Care Dependency Grant is R2 180 per month, as of 1 April 2024. This is an increase of R90 per grant, with a further increase of R10 expected on 1 October 2024. 

5. Disability Grant:

It is available to individuals with a physical or mental disability who have been unable to work for more than six months. Individuals are offered a temporary disability grant if their illness continues for more than a year, and a permanent grant if it continues for more than six months. The permanent disability grant does not mean that you will receive it for the rest of your life. It simply means that you will receive it for a longer period of time than 12 months. 

The Disability Grant is R2 180 per person, per month, as of 1 April 2024. The Disability Grant value works on a sliding scale – therefore people with higher private income will receive a smaller grant amount. This is an increase of R90 per grant, with a further increase of R10 expected on 1 October 2024.

6. Pensioners Grant (Older Person’s Grant):

The grant is given to individuals who are older (60 years or older) and no longer able to work and earn a living. 

The Older Persons Grant value depends on the recipients age. As of 1 April 2024, the old age pension is R2 180 per person, per month, for people between 60 and 74 years old and R2 200 per person, per month, for people over 75 years old. This is an increase of R90 per grant, with a further increase of R10 expected on 1 October 2024. 

7. Grant-In-Aid:

The aid is given to people on a social grant who are unable to take care of themselves. This additional grant will pay the person who takes full-time care of them.

The value of the Grant-In-Aid is R510 per month, as of 1 October 2023. This is an increase of R10 per grant, from 1 April 2023.

8. War Veterans Grant:

This grant is available to veterans of the Second World War (1939 to 1945) or the Korean War (1950 to 1953) who are unable to financially support themselves.

As of 1 October 2023, the war veterans grant is R2 200 per person, per monthThis is an increase of R90 per grant, with a further increase of R10 expected on 1 October 2024.
